Happy Birthday Post!

A friend sent me an awesome link to some really creative and fun art birthday party decorations. I especially love the colorful cake balls displayed in the paint palette. Check out Inspired Birthday Party Themes for more ideas and more photos!

This would be such a fun birthday party--the invitations would be so cute and so fun to make!

Today is my birthday, I am 28!! Inching my way towards 30,  it will be here before I know it. Read about some of my other birthday adventures here, I haven't always had the best luck on my birthday. (Let's hope I don't get a ticket for 'body parts outside the vehicle' again!)

This day has started out beautifully. My entire school sang happy birthday to me in the bus room. Each class of the day has showered me with birthday notes and paintings.

My student teacher made me a super cute owl apron and an entire bouquet of owl pops! So cute!! This is my first owl apron-- I own tons of aprons but none have owls!
Cutest thing ever! I am in LOVE!

Totally cute and creative. I need this book now! I think I may have a new obsession!

Watch for a post on Monday entitled 'My Birthday in Food'...it looks like I will be spending a lot of time eating this weekend--and I am excited about that!

Thanks for reading! I am excited to get back to blogging soon. I have lots of great ideas for posts, just need to find time to get them written. I am hoping to have a bit more time in the coming weeks.

Is there any thing you want me to write about? Art teacher stuff? Lesson plans? Funny stories? Crafting projects? Leave me some requests in the comments!

The girl who can't stop painting owls....

I keep painting owls. I just can't stop!!!

Here is my entry for this year's Spiva Small Works Auction.
Remember last year's entry:

And I've started a circle journal with some friends. Angela. Jari. Jen. I've done the first two pages...but I also decorated the cover:
Close up!
This one might not quite be finished, but he is part of the collection. Retro owl....Inspired by Mati Rose.
Night owl.
Baby blue owl.
And Winston. One of my first owl paintings. This guy is really huge!! One of my favorite owls ever.

I am only motivated to paint occasionally...and I know I will never be Monet, Picasso, Cassat, Frida or any of those great, dead artists who would NEVER appreciate my work...but I think...Eric Carle would like it...and that is okay with me.

So I just keep painting owls.

Because I think it is important for an art teacher to make art. And show it.

So I had a show this weekend at a local art walk. And one of my (4th grade!!!) students also had art on display there also.

Thrifting the weekend away.....

Last weekend was so nice! Well, it was rainy and foggy...but I stayed up late crafting and slept really late...I also got some great finds at thrifty shops around town. Here are some of my favorite finds:

This owl was gold...I turned him green...lime green...isn't he so cool!!! I am still trying to find the perfect place for him.

These owls are going in my bathroom...on a shelf...they will look so cool in there!

Okay...I have wanted to create some spray painted birds every since I saw the idea over at Rachie's Place. Read more here.

In addition to all the cutie birds, I also found a box of vintage fabric at the flea market.....for $10...these are my favorites:

I already used that green polka dot stuff on my colored pencil sketchbook!

But there are tons of them....perfect for practicing my new sewing skills....

...and she even threw in some really cool quilt blocks!

Well, I hope you are having a great weekend too!!
