My Apron

I learned (again) how to sew!! It was so fun to create this little apron to wear at school!! I made a pattern so that I can re-create it using different patterns and materials. I just love the lace on the bottom!!

Lovely Sundays of summer's end

I had planned to send more updates yesterday but things got busy and my battery died. The convention was awesome. Especially when we were in the elevator with a 2pac gangster, wearing our 'i {heart} scrapbooking' shirts talking about stamp pads! Hehe. lots of free goodies and great calsses. I will take some pics this week (not a lot going on! Yay) and post them for you.

Spent this afternoon laying on a quilt in the shade. It was lovely.

Swap Club--Fall Cards

Its that time of the month again. Every month I get together with friends to exchange cards. This gives everyone a variety of cards to use. This month the idea is to create a card with fall colors. I tend to grab pink a lot so it will be great to have cards on hand to use this fall.

My cards this month feature a big owl and some mushrooms from the CTMH stamp set WHOOO Loves You. I actually stamped them on watercolor paper (it was already cut from another project) using colorbox chalk ink. I was able to play around with mixing the colors. After stamping, I sprinkled them with glittery embossing powder.

The CS, ribbon, and stamps are CTMH. The ink is Colorbox and the hemp is from my craft room. I decided to leave the sentiment off....I thought that people could use these cards for anything. I will take a little picture of everyone's cards and show you what technique we will learn at the swap after Thursday, but be warned...it might be a while before you seen anything other than CKC!!

That's right, as soon as school is out on Friday, I will be headed down to Tulsa, OK for the Creating Keepsakes Convention. I have been a subscriber to the magazine for nearly 10 years so I am super excited to take classes and crop with other scrappers. I will definitely be posting pictures via my iphone from the convention this weekend!! I can't wait!!

Another Planner

Last week, I got a call from my student teacher. I was a little nervous about meeting her because I really love my job and I was worried that I would overwhelm her with too much information at first. We met for lunch and then I drove her around and we talked about kids, and teaching, and art. I showed her my classrooms and explained my schedule.

I thought it would be easier for her to stay organized if she has a copy of my lesson plan book so I whipped one up for her. After making my giant one, I already had a bunch of leftover calendar pages so this one was pretty easy to put together.

I am so glad I bought the bind-it-all. I literally covered the front and back pages, copied the monthly calendar pages and punched everything and put it together in around an hour. It was so nice.

I even made her a little folder in the back to stuff papers in there, just like I do!

Some Postcards

Each year before school starts, I begin thinking about my students. Because I teach in a Kindergarten center, I pass at least 200 little ones on to first grade and I start forgetting their names minutes after the final bell of the year. Sometimes, I get them again when they are in 3rd grade (during summer school) and it is amazing to see how they grow and change but for the most part, I never really get to know them.

I also work in a building that houses Kindergarten through 4th grade. It is wonderful to experience the 5 year progression from squirmy kindergartener, to enthusiastic first grader, to toothless second grader, to chapter-book reading third grader and finally to mature, budding artist fourth grader. I always hate it when my fourth graders leave me at the end of the year. They are trained. They are helpful. They get my jokes!

This summer I have been thinking a lot about the tiny group that will be entering middle school from our elementary. Last summer, I sent out a postcard to each one letting them know that I will miss them and 'good luck!' This summer I decided to do the same thing. I stamped up some cardstock with some sweet owls (they know I love owls!) and arriving any minute now, they should receive a little handwritten note from their elementary art teacher reminding them that they are special and loved.

Who knows, maybe someone in their family will find this letter in their belongings as part of their legacy or maybe I will be sending the very same post card out to one of their kids or grandkids.

***Note*** The students received their post cards and every single one that visited me during open house last night said, "Thanks you for my card."
